More Terrain, More Choice

16 mountain ranges to explore, boasting over 700 runs….so much terrain, so much fun!

One of the main components of a heliskiing company is having extensive varied terrain to satisfy skiers and snowboarders who are intermediate and up. We are fortunate to have 16 mountain ranges and over 700 runs to enjoy, giving us the largest terrain area out of any other heliski company in the Southern Lakes region.

Endless peaks with varied terrain for all levels of skiing and snowboarding

This year we have some exciting news! We have opened up three amazing new terrain areas which gives us even more places to explore. These peaks are situated near Glenorchy and Queenstown and provide us with easy, fast helicopter lifts into vast terrain, which is perfect for Daily Heliskiing or for Private Charters who want to maximise their Heli-time.

By having terrain north, south, east and west, it means we have more opportunity to chase the snow from storms that come in from different weather systems. If it happens to be a year when the snow is a bit thin on the ski fields, we have the advantage of a helicopter to take us to our higher backcountry terrain where the snow is pristine and well preserved. Not a ski track in sight!

Our heli-ski terrain varies from wide open bowls, tight chutes, and natural half pipes. Within one run an experienced skier or boarder can find what they are looking for while an intermediate rider can gain confidence in the wide-open bowls. What we always advise our customers is to enjoy the adventure, take your time to look at the view and think about how you want to ride or ski your line. The more preparation you do at the top the more fun the line is. Our guides are happy to work with you to make sure you achieve all the goals so communicate your needs and maximise your day!

We are lucky in New Zealand to have all our heliskiing in the alpine area on maritime snow. First timers benefit from this as there are no trees to navigate and the snow is much faster to compact than the blower powder from North America. This makes it much easier to ski or board as you can stay on top rather than disappear underneath. Being in the alpine means we can only fly on good weather days which enables us to really enjoy the backcountry and the awesome views.

Terrain is everything to a heliskiing company, the more terrain you have the more choices you can make. Winter isn’t far away and we are starting to get some good dumps of snow. It’s so far shaping up to be a good one that you wouldn’t want to miss out on so give us a call to book your next adventure!
